Who better than Cyril de La Patellière to evoke the genesis of his work? “In January 1990, a certain Mr.S. contacted me in his superb villa in Nice: You see, dear friend, I had this house built only for my wife. She never lived there, she died too soon. Can you bring her back to life with your talent so that her tangible memory remains? No sooner said than done! La Patellière gave life a second time to this woman thanks to his talents of sculptor... Then Mr. S. had to sell his house, only the bronze remained. He donated it to the Principality of Monaco. This is why, in the Saint-Martin gardens, Maryse watches the unalterable time pass in her mirror, and this for centuries and centuries... hence the engraved mention: "From ever to ever".
Cyril de La Patellière was born on October 6, 1950 in Saint Nazaire (Loire Atlantique). He studied art in Nice, then turned to a graphic designer and poster artist. From 1983, he devoted himself to painting and sculpture (bronze and marble). He exhibited in Paris at the Salon d'Automne and won the Prix de la Ville de Nice in 1986 and the Prix Paul Belmondo in 1989 awarded by the Académie des Beaux-Arts. In sculpture, painting, watercolor and sanguine, his favorite theme is the female nude. Among his major works is the statue of the Patron Saint of Monaco, which was installed on the square of the church of Sainte-Dévote and inaugurated in 1997 in the presence of the Princely Family.
